WordPod is a free piece of software that wants to help you read eBooks on your iPod. There are tons of eBooks out there – more than 16K classics are available for free on the Project Gutenberg website for example. Get eBooks from the Project Guttenberg library or from another location and use WordPod to convert and transfer them to your iPod. This can be done quite easily and for free.

WordPod is a Java-based application that’s available for multiple platforms. The Java-based part of that statement refers to the fact that you need to have Java version 5 or newer for WordPod to work. And the multiple platforms part refers to the fact that you can use WordPod on a Windows or on a Mac OS X-powered machine.

eBooks converted by WordPod are presented as a list on its interface – said list takes up the main part of the interface. At the top there’s a traditional File Menu and a toolbar with nice big buttons for adding eBooks, viewing converted books, exporting eBooks, and syncing eBooks with your iPod. It is, in all fairness, a simple layout that you will quickly get accustomed to.

Using WordPod is also a simple matter. You will have to go through the following three easy steps:
Step 1 – Load a book in TXT format. You can get an eBook from the aforementioned Project Guttenberg website.
Step 2 – Press OK when presented with the options screens. Tick the eBooks you want to transfer to your iPod.
Step 3 – Click Sync or use the Ctrl+S hotkey to transfer the eBooks you selected to your iPod.

Released under a GNU General Public License, WordPod is a free application.

Read to your heart’s content! With the free application WordPod you can convert and sync eBooks to your iPod.

Pros

WordPod is a Java-based application that’s available for multiple platforms. Installing it on a Windows-powered machine takes little time and effort. The same goes for figuring out the interface. Converting and syncing eBooks to your iPod is an effortless task. WordPod is free software.

Cons

None that I could think of.
